Rainy Day thoughts

That's it folks, a whopping four copies of my latest book sold. I know it has only been 10 days, but it is disappointing, nonetheless. I decided to look at past books and their performance.

Broken Road was published in February 2023, and has only sold nine copies.

Marguerite's Christmas Project was published in November 2022, and sold sixteen copies.

Merciful Blessings in July 2022, sold 12 copies.

Christmas Blessing in October 2021 did better than most of my later books, selling 29 copies. I gifted 25 copies (not included in the count), and I think that garnered more than a couple sales.

Contrast later sales with early sales - eighty-one copies of Count Your Blessings sold, and multiple free eBooks were also distributed. I know some of these were novelty sales, friends and family who wanted to be supportive and see what my books were about. Future sales would say few of the eighty-one were interested in continuing the series.

Unexpected Blessing released at the same time as Count Your Blessings, and sold sixty-eight copies, I think the novelty perspective still was in effect.

Sowing Freedom, Reaping Joy sold forty-seven copies, and was released in February 2019.

What does all or any of this mean? One take is there is an incredible amount of opportunity for me. If all eighty-one people that purchased Count Your Blessing purchased the rest of my books, I might even turn a profit this year, as long as I don't pay myself for my time.

The other take is not so positive. There just isn't demand for my stories.

I refuse to believe that. My few devoted fans are devoted. I know I have an audience. I just have to figure out how to reach them and entice them to read my books.

It can be hard to be motivated to write knowing that very few people will read what I have written. But I have to write. It keeps me sane. And I believe that showing people a kinder, gentler world can help motivate them to try to make their world kinder and gentler. So I will keep writing. And maybe someday, I will find that elusive audience and they will buy my books and read and enjoy them.
