Surviving and Thriving

We have had a rough year of weather here in Southeast Louisiana. Last summer was super hot and dry. Record breaking heat, and a severe drought. Then we had a hard freeze that lasted a couple of days this winter.

All of my flowering plants died from one thing or another, except for this rose bush, which is thriving. This particular rose bush is a cultivar developed in 1989, and it is particularly hardy and able to withstand long periods of less than optimal conditions.

After the freeze, the bush was looking pretty bad, so I trimmed it back quite a bit, and hoped for the best. As real Spring weather has arrived, it has sprouted new growth and is covered in flowers.

I want to be like this plant. I want to be hardy, and thrive after what has been the most difficult season of my life so far.

Looking at this plant gives me hope. If this little rose bush can flourish after the year it has been through, I can too.
