I don't know how well you can see it in the photo, but the big formatting error was that I had the print dimensions set for a 5x8 book, instead of a 6x9, so the margins are huge. The good news is it is an easy fix in the formatting software I use (Atticus) so it is already fixed. Atticus had made a software update, and I had gotten an email that said to log out and log back in, but in my excitement about receiving the proof copy, I forgot that I had to do that.
So I spent about an hour last night panicking because I couldn't download my corrected copy to upload into Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). This morning, after sending a help email, my brain engaged. I logged out and logged in and now I have a corrected manuscript in KDP. Now for the real work of reading the book looking for errors in punctuation, spacing, clarity, etc.
Here is the blurb that will appear on the back of the physical copies, and on the book description page in Amazon. What do you think? Does this description entice you to read the book?
Ezra Carmichel is devastated by the death of his grandparents, Ernie and Lily Dooley, who had raised him since his parents died in an accident when he was eight years old. When Ezra finds a picture of Lily that reveals a secret from her past, his grief is compounded by anger. Why did Lily keep such a secret? Did she keep that secret from Ernie as well?
Bessie Chauvin is saddened to learn of the death of her cousin Lily, but is distracted from her sadness by the discovery of a book written by her grandmother, Josette. The book tells the life story of Miriam Angelique Simon Allard.
Welcome back to Bayou Beni! Join Ezra and Bessie as they discover stories from the past that help them chart a path to the future.
